BLM Names Burke Acting Manager of Cedarville Office

The U. S. Bureau of Land Management has announced that Tim Burke, manager of the agency's Alturas Field Office, has been appointed acting manager for the neighboring Surprise Field Office in Cedarville, Calif.

Burke will fill in behind Allen Bollschweiler, who left the Surprise Field Office manager position to become manager of the BLM Grants Pass, Ore. field office. Burke will retain his responsibilities managing the BLM Alturas Field Office while he provides management support in Cedarville.

Initially, Burke will be in the Cedarville office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and in the Alturas office during the same hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"During this period, Tim will be taking a close look at operations in our Surprise and Alturas field offices, situated on the east and west sides of the Warner Mountains," said Nancy Haug, manager of the BLM's Northern California District which oversees both field offices. "We will take this opportunity to explore where we can share employee skills, operationally and in management, between these offices to maintain our levels of public service and increase efficiencies in the way we spend tax dollars."

Haug said she will be discussing options about the best way to provide management oversight in the Surprise Field Office, accepting ideas and suggestions from the BLM staff, members of the community and from BLM partners and public land stakeholders over the next few months.

During this time, she said, Burke will focus on keeping BLM programs running smoothly in Cedarville.

"Tim is very familiar with our programs in northeast California and northwest Nevada, having worked closely with the Surprise Field Office over the past 14 years," Haug said. "He is a veteran natural resources specialist and manager, with experience in Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Central California before coming to Alturas. He is well versed in range management, wild horse and burro management, cultural resources and our fire and fuels programs."

Burke can be reached in Cedarville at (530) 279-6101, in Alturas at (530) 233-4666 or via email at tburke@blm.gov.
