Bizz Johnson Trail Bus Shuttle Service Begins June 2
Hikers, bicyclists and joggers can celebrate National Trails Day with a special Bizz Johnson Trail bike shuttle on Saturday, June 2. The event is the first in a series of bike shuttles to be held on the first and third Saturdays of each month through October.
In the service, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) provides a truck and trailer to shuttle bikes from Susanville to three starting points along the trail. Lassen Rural Bus transports hikers and bike riders as part of its regularly scheduled service between Susanville and Westwood. The bike shuttles allow people to arrange one-way trips on the trail without having to plan their own vehicle shuttles.
To reserve space, visit the Lassen Land and Trails Trust (LLTT) website, www.llttweb.org, and click on the event registration link. More information is available by calling LLTT at (530) 257-3252.
In the shuttles, a bus and bike transport will depart from the Susanville Railroad Depot on Richmond Road at 8:30 a.m., making stops at Devil’s Corral, Fredonyer Summit and Mason Station en route to the final stop at the Westwood Trailhead. Separate bike shuttle fees and bus fares vary according to the stop.
Participants should be at the Susanville Depot a half-hour before departure to allow time for bicycle loading.
Depending on the stop, hikers and mountain bikers can use the trail for return trips that are 7, 18, or 30 miles in length.
Shuttles are planned for June 2 and 16, July 7 and 21, Aug. 4 and 18, Sept. 1 and 15 and Oct. 6, 20 and 27 (the annual fall colors ride).
The summer shuttles are a partnership of the BLM, LLTT and Lassen Rural Bus.
