BLM Releases Draft Environmental Study for Colton to Las Vegas Calnev Pipe Line Expansion

The Bureau of Land Management and County of San Bernardino today released a draft Environmental Impact Statement / Environmental Impact Report for public review on the proposed Calnev Pipe Line Expansion Project in the counties of San Bernardino, Calif. and Clark, Nev.

Calnev Pipe Line, LLC applied to the BLM for a right-of-way on public lands to construct a 16-inch diameter petroleum pipeline on approximately 2,841 acres of land under multiple ownerships.  The BLM manages 1,329 acres of the land the pipeline would cross.  Construction of the proposed 235-mile, 16-inch pipe line would begin next year if approved by BLM and the County of San Bernardino.
 
The document, available at: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/barstow/calnev_page.html, includes a draft BLM California Desert Conservation Area Plan Amendment also available for public comment.  BLM, as the lead agency under the National Environmental Policy Act, along with the US Forest Service and US Marine Corps as cooperating agencies, and the County of San Bernardino, as the lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act,  jointly prepared the EIS/EIR to analyze the site-specific impacts of the proposed project on air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, water resources, geological resources and hazards, hazardous materials handling, land use, noise, and visual resources.
