Campground, River Access Point to be Closed during Enhancement Project

The Steiner Flat Campground and the locally-known “Chop Tree” river access point along the Trinity River will be closed this summer while construction is underway on a river enhancement project.

The U. S. Bureau of Land Management announced that the campground on Steiner Flat Road will be closed from July 1 through Dec. 31.  The Chop Tree access will be closed later in the summer when the construction project moves into the area.  An exact date will be posted.

BLM officials said the project funded by the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Trinity River Restoration Program is designed to restore conditions essential for healthy fish and wildlife and a healthy river system.

The BLM said there are many Trinity River camping and river access points available through the summer including the Douglas City campground and boat ramp,  the Steel Bridge campground and boat ramp, and river access points at Rush Creek, Sky Ranch, Bucktail, Dutton Creek, Indian Creek and Bagdad.

Additional Trinity River access information is available by contacting the BLM Redding Field Office, (530) 224-2100 or by visiting
