Ten-Acre Prescribed Burn Planned for Tomorrow West of Perris

Fire officials will be conducting a controlled burn on 10 acres west of Perris on Thursday, June 14, 2012.  Burning operations are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and will conclude by 1 p.m.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) are conducting the burn to reduce the fire hazard in the area.  The burn will help firefighters keep fires that might start in the area from moving into surrounding communities.

The burning operations will include BLM and CAL FIRE fire engines and CAL FIRE fire crews from the Conservation Camp program.  The Steele Peak Prescribed Fire is one of several planned projects in Riverside County to restore habitat and mitigate hazardous fire conditions in advance of a major wildfire.

The burning operations will only occur on permissive burn days as determined by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD).  For further information, please contact BLM Fuels Specialist James Gannon, (760) 833-7122 or CAL FIRE Pre-Fire Battalion Chief Bill Weiser, (951) 659-3337.
