BLM Implements Fire Prevention Closure in San Diego County

Effective July 27, 2012, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office will initiate a temporary closure of public lands in and near Sycamore Canyon and Marron Valley in San Diego County due to hazardous fire conditions.

Approximately 4,568 acres of public lands are affected by the closure. A map and description of the closure is available on-line at: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/palmsprings.html and is posted at the entrances to Sycamore Canyon and Marron Valley.  Other uses of these areas are exempted from the closure as specified in the order.

“A wildfire under these conditions could pose a serious threat to the public and resources as well as adjacent private lands and communities,” said BLM Field Manager John Kalish.  “Severe burning conditions brought on by hot, dry weather, hazardous fuels and the restricted nature of these areas make this closure necessary.  This order will remain in effect until fire conditions warrant a lifting of the closure.”

For further information, contact the BLM Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office at (760) 833-7100.
