The Bureau of Land Management has announced that it will close the South Cow Mountain Off-Highway Vehicle Area to general recreation use and through traffic from Friday, August 3 through Saturday, August 4, to provide for public safety during the Mendocino Rally car race. NorCal Rally has been granted an exclusive use permit to utilize the length of Mendo-Lake Road through the OHV Area for this “stage rally” event. “Public safety is our first concern,” said Rich Burns, BLM Ukiah field manager. “The rally cars will be racing at high speeds on the road in both directions, and we have to be as certain as we can be that no non-participant accidentally gets onto the race course, for their own safety and that of the participants.” No spectators will be allowed on the course during the event. The area will be reopened to the public on Sunday morning, as soon as the area is cleared of all race related materials. For additional Cow Mountain information, contact the Bureau of Land Management at (707) 468-4000 or visit www.blm.gov/ca/ukiah. |
