Members Named to BLM Resource Advisory Council
New members and a returning member have been named to seats on the U. S. Bureau of Land Management’s Northeast California Resource Advisory Council. The appointments to three-year terms were made by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
Named to new terms were Louise Jensen, of Susanville, representing environmental interests; Judy Oliver, of Janesville, representing dispersed recreation interests; and Carol Montgomery, of Susanville, who will represent the public at large.
Sean Curtis, of Alturas, was reappointed to term representing agencies involved with natural resources. Burney resident Skip Willmore was named to a continuing term representing commercial forestry interests.
The council’s next meeting is Feb. 8-10 in Redding. Details will be announced.
The 15-member citizen panel works closely with managers of the agency’s Alturas, Eagle Lake (Susanville) and Surprise (Cedarville) field offices, advising on a wide variety of natural resource issues affecting the public lands. Members represent diverse interest areas including timber management, livestock grazing, recreation, environmental organizations, state and local government, history and archaeology interests, wild horse and burro interests, Native American tribes, natural resources agencies and the public at large.
Vacancies occur every year, and anyone interested in managing public lands and natural resources is encouraged to apply. Nomination opportunities will be announced this spring. This year, the RAC will have openings on seats representing commercial timber, livestock grazing, history and archaeology and the public at large.
