BLM to Hold Public Meeting on Prosper Ridge Restoration Effort |

|
Proposals to restore coastal prairie habitat on Prosper Ridge in the King Range National Conservation Area (NCA) will be discussed in a public meeting Wednesday, Feb. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Mattole Grange Hall in Petrolia. Staff from the U. S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be asking for public comments on issues that should be considered in development of an environmental assessment for proposed projects. Participants will hear information on past BLM activities at Prosper Ridge and hear about planning for comprehensive grassland conservation activities. Prosper Ridge is on the north end of the King Range NCA, southwest of the community of Petrolia. Restoration proposals are being considered to reduce the encroachment of trees and brush into the prairies, displacing native plants and the reducing the habitat they provide for wildlife. More information is available by contacting Dave Fuller, planning and environmental coordinator for the BLM’s Arcata Field Office, at (707) 825-2321. |
