WEMO Route Network Project Subgroup Members Selected

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s California Desert Advisory Council (DAC) has selected members for the West Mojave Route Network Project subgroup.  They are Dinah Shumway, representing the DAC, with Council Members Kim Erb and Randy Banis as alternates; Ron Schiller, representing motor-dependent activities; Jill Bays, representing biological resources with Tom Budlong as alternate; Robert Reynolds, representing non-biological resources; Ed Waldheim and Bill Maddux representing motorized recreation with Jim Wilson as alternate; and Mark Algazy, Jim Kenney, and Tom Laymon representing the public-at-large.

Under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, the DAC provides advice to the Secretary through the California Desert District Manager.  Accordingly, at the district manager’s request, the DAC develops recommendations for the BLM with respect to use, classification, retention, disposal, or other aspects of public land planning and management in the public interest.  Input from this subgroup is presented directly to the DAC for its deliberation and consideration before the DAC makes a recommendation to the district manager. 

The subgroup will assist the BLM in identifying a range of alternatives for the eight Travel Management Areas of the West Mojave Planning Area.  Members of the subgroup will serve without salary and meet monthly until completion of the subgroup mission in the first quarter of 2014.  For further information about the subgroup and route network project, please see: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/rac/dac/wmrnp.html.
