BLM Will Burn Debris Piles in Weaverville Community Forest, Swasey Recreation Area

Crews from the Bureau of Land Management will burn piles of brush and limbs in the Weaverville Community Forest and the Swasey Recreation Area near west Redding during the week of Dec. 10.

The debris piles were created during project work to improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk.

Piles in a 30-acre area of the Weaverville Forest will be burned Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 10 and 11.  Smoke will be visible from Weaverville and is expected to drift to the south. The community forest is about a mile southwest of Weaverville and is managed jointly by the BLM and the Trinity County Resource Conservation District.

At the Swasey site, crews plan to burn piles all week in an eight-acre project area a mile west of Swasey Drive.  Smoke will be visible from west Redding, Centerville and the Middletown Park Drive neighborhood.

Piles will be ignited only on days when weather allows for safe and successful burning and smoke dispersion.

For more information, contact the BLM Redding Field Office, (530) 224-2100.
