|
Songbirds and ecology will be featured topics in a free guided outing in the King Range National Conservation Area on Saturday, May 12. Kyle Keegan, an expert on migratory songbirds, will lead the hiking group meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the King Range Project Office, 768 Shelter Cove Rd., Whitethorn. Participants will learn how to identify songbirds that migrate each year from Latin America to the King Range, and their connectivity within the ecosystem. Hikers should bring binoculars, bird identification guides, water and lunch. Keegan is a nature recordist who contributes to Cornell University’s Lab of Ornithology and Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds. He has a background in wildlife biology and stream and forest restoration. The hike is part of the annual King Range Summer Hikes Series presented by the Bureau of Land Management and the Lost Coast Interpretive Association. Additional outings will be announced.
