BLM Arcata Field Office Plans Pile Burning Projects

Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will be burning slash piles in several areas in the Lacks Creek Management Area this Sunday, Oct. 2.

The piles of brush and limbs were created during hazardous fuels reduction, oak-woodland restoration, and forest health improvement projects.

Piles will be ignited only on days when weather allows for safe and effective burning, and with authorization from the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District.  Following ignition, piles will be patrolled daily until heat is no longer measurable.

Campfire restrictions will remain in effect on public lands managed by the Arcata Field Office in Humboldt, northern Mendocino and western Trinity counties, until such time as consistent seasonal wet weather conditions put an end to the wildfire season.

More information is available from Tim Jones, Fire Management Officer for the Arcata Field Office, at (707) 825-2306.
