BLM Bishop Field Office Volunteer Event Planned at Goodale Creek Campground

The Bureau of Land Management’s Bishop Field Office is inviting the public to meet the Bishop Field Office staff and volunteer with them on a campground restoration project at the Goodale Creek Campground.
The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.  Volunteers can meet at 9:30 a.m. at the campground located approximately 30 miles south of Bishop and 30 miles north of Lone Pine off Highway 395.  From Highway 395, take the Goodale Road west (past the small town of Aberdeen) for approximately two miles to the campground.

In place of their usual monthly staff meeting, the Bishop Field Office staff will work on this restoration project together.  The public is invited to come meet the staff in this informal setting and help restore an old campground loop.

In 2011, the BLM Bishop Field Office campgrounds received their first major update and renovation since being established in the late 1960s.  During the update and redesign of Goodale Creek Campground, a portion of the old campground was closed.  At a National Public Lands Day volunteer event on Oct. 22, workers began restoring and naturalizing the area while also creating a short interpretive nature trail.  The Nov. 16 project will continue these restoration efforts.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.  Please bring work gloves (if you have them) and wear work clothes, including long pants and closed toe shoes.  Sunscreen, hats and warm jackets are also advisable.  Beverages, tools and other work supplies will be provided.

For more information about the event, contact Martin Oliver at (760) 872-5035 or Jeff Starosta at (760) 872-5032.
