Bizz Johnson Trail Bus Shuttle Service Begins June 4

Hikers, cyclists and joggers can celebrate National Trails Day with a special Bizz Johnson Trail bike shuttle on Saturday, June 4.  The event is the first in a series of bike shuttles to be held on the first and third Saturdays of each month through October.

In the service, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) provides a truck and trailer to shuttle bikes from Susanville to ride starting points along the trail.  Lassen Rural Bus transports hikers and bike riders as part of its regularly scheduled service between Susanville and Westwood. The shuttles allow people to arrange one-way trips on the trail without having to plan their own vehicle shuttles.

For the National Trails Days event, the BLM shuttle and accompanying Lassen Rural Bus will depart from the Susanville Railroad Depot on Richmond Road at 8:30 a.m., making stops at Devil’s Corral, Fredonyer Summit and Mason Station en route to its final stop at the Westwood Trailhead.  Separate bike shuttle fees and bus fares vary according to the stop.

Participants should be at the Susanville Depot a half-hour before departure to allow time for bicycle loading.

Depending on the stop, hikers and mountain bikers can use the trail for return trips that are 7, 12, 18, or 30 miles in length.
Bus fares vary depending on the stop.

Shuttles are planned for June 4 and 18, July 2 and 16, Aug. 6 and 20, Sept. 3 and 17, and Oct. 1, 15 and 29 (the annual falls colors ride).

To reserve space, visit the Lassen Land and Trails Trust (LLTT) website, www.llttweb.org and click on the event registration link.  More information is available by calling the LLTT at (530) 257-3252.

The summer shuttles are a partnership of the BLM, LLTT and Lassen Rural Bus.
