Experimental Stewardship Steering Committee to Meet in Cedarville

Various natural resource conservation topics will be discussed when the Modoc-Washoe Experimental Stewardship Steering Committee meets Wednesday and Thursday, June 29 and 30, for a field tour and meeting in Cedarville.

On June 29, the committee will convene at 8:45 a.m. at the BLM Surprise Field Office in Cedarville and depart for a tour of the Home Camp livestock grazing allotment.

On June 30, the business meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Surprise Field Office.

Agenda items include sage grouse conservation, status of Ruby Pipeline construction, status of BLM grazing permit renewals, guidelines on grazing permittee use of grazing fee credit and wild horse and burro management.   The committee will also hear status reports from technical review teams working on resource management issues in the Emerson/Cottonwood, Tuledad and Homecamp, and Bare livestock grazing allotments.

Managers of the BLM Surprise Field Office and Modoc National Forest Warner Mountain Ranger District will present status reports, as will representatives of the other committee organizations.

The steering committee advises the BLM’s Surprise Field Office and the Modoc National Forest’s Warner Mountain Ranger District on natural resource issues and livestock grazing management on public lands.  One of three such committees established by Congress, the group works on a full consensus basis to promote innovate range management approaches and to provide incentives for excellence.

Members represent a wide range of interests, including livestock grazing permit holders, California and Nevada state wildlife agencies, BLM, Forest Service, resource conservation districts, timber interests, environmental groups, sporting groups and local government.
