Headwaters Trail Closed due to Tree Fire |
||||||
|
The Bureau of Land has temporarily closed the Elk River Trail in Headwaters Forest Reserve to protect public safety after someone set fire to the “bachelor’s quarters” tree Thursday. The “bachelor’s quarters” tree is a large redwood stump with a large sitka spruce growing from the stump. The stump is still burning and fire crews are evaluating what to do with the spruce since the fire has made it unstable, Clarence Killingsworth, acting manager in the BLM Arcata Field Office, said this morning. The BLM is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the apprehension and prosecution of the person(s) who started the fire. For more information call the Arcata Field Office at (707) 825-2300. |
