National Monument Seeking Nominations for Advisory Committee


The Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument is seeking nominations for appointment to the Monument Advisory Committee.  Nominations are being sought for both primary and alternate representatives of various interests and organizations to serve on the committee.  Members of the committee provide advice to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service regarding implementation of the National Monument Management Plan.  Advisory Committee members are appointed to three-year terms by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior with concurrence of the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. 

Nominations are being accepted at this time for the following positions:  primary and alternate representatives of the City of Palm Desert, primary and alternate representatives of the City of Rancho Mirage, primary and alternate representatives of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, primary and alternate representatives of the Pinyon Community Council, and primary and alternate representatives with expertise in natural science and research from a regional college or university.  Terms for appointees to these positions will begin Dec. 16, 2011 and expire Dec. 16, 2014.

Nomination applications must be submitted no later than Sept. 29, 2011 to the National Monument Manager, BLM Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office, 1201 Bird Center Drive, Palm Springs, CA 92262.  Applications must be completed in full and include letters of reference and/or recommendations from the represented interest or organization, and any other information explaining the nominee’s qualifications.  Incorrect or incomplete nomination application packages will be rejected.
