Lost Coast area residents will have the opportunity to delve into the complexities of fire management in a hands-on simulation to be held Tuesday, March 1, at 7 p.m., at the Bureau of Land Management King Range Project Office on Shelter Cove Road in Whitethorn. “We will provide a wildfire scenario and invite meeting participants to play various roles in deciding how best to manage the fire and protect natural resources,” said Tim Jones, fire management officer for the BLM’s Arcata Field Office. “We have done this exercise with audiences of differing ages and they come away with a better understanding of what’s involved in managing wildfires.” Rachel Sowards-Thompson, interpretive specialist at the King Range National Conservation Area, will help lead the exercise. The simulation is the latest in the King Range winter lecture series. Admission is free. |
