BLM Lifting Fire Restrictions on North Coast Public Lands |
||||||
|
With the onset of rainy weather, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has ended fire restrictions on public lands managed by the Arcata Field Office in Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity counties. Easing of restrictions means that campfires can again be used outside of developed campsites. Campfire permits are required. They are available at the BLM Arcata Field Office, 1695 Heindon Rd., Arcata, and the King Range Office, 768 Whitethorn Rd. in Whitethorn. Internal combustion engines can once again be used off of established roads and trails, and smoking is no longer restricted to recreation sites and enclosed vehicles. “Even though we’ve had rain, people still need to be careful with fire,” said Tim Jones, fire management officer for the BLM in Arcata. “Fires should never be used on windy days, and it is imperative that campers fully extinguish campfires before leaving a campsite.” |
