BLM Grants Interim Right-of-way to Navy in San Diego County

The Bureau of Land Management has decided to grant an interim right-of-way to the Department of the Navy so they may carry on important national defense training at the La Posta Mountain Warfare Training Facility located in southeastern San Diego County.

The Navy currently conducts special warfare training on a 1,079 acre microwave space relay station site under a previous public land withdrawal action.  The BLM recently analyzed a Navy proposal for a new withdrawal to expand training operations to 5,554 acres in the Campo, California vicinity.

The interim right-of-way will allow the Navy to conduct training on the expanded site while the Secretary of the Interior and Congress consider the withdrawal pursuant to the Engle Act.

The decision documents can be viewed at: https://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/palmsprings.html.  For further information contact Michael Bennett, BLM Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office at (760) 833-7100.
