BLM Announces Public Meeting for Desert Discovery Center Parkland Development in Barstow

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and its Desert Discovery Center partners are holding the third of five public meetings to discuss the proposed outdoor classroom and park developments.  The development would occur on eight acres adjacent to the center and would create a new community parkland and educational facility.

Community members and business owners are encouraged to participate in the grass roots planning meeting.  In particular, input is needed to identify recreation features, review site location and access, and provide design ideas for parkland beautification. 

The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at the Desert Discovery Center, 831 Barstow Road, Barstow, Calif.  An informal meet and greet will precede a presentation by Brad Mastin, outdoor recreation planner for BLM’s Barstow Field Office.  Open discussion and public input will follow the presentation.
