Chalfant Public Land Stewardship Field Trip Planned

The Chalfant Public Land Stewardship (CPLS) and the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Bishop Field Office will conduct a field trip on Saturday, Jan. 23, regarding management of the public lands surrounding the community of Chalfant. The group will meet at 9 a.m. at the corner of Chalfant Road and Highway 6 in Chalfant, 14 miles north of Bishop.

At a Jan. 6 meeting sponsored by CPLS, attendees discussed options to improve access to public lands and also allow better use of the area by varied recreation from motorcycles to equestrians. The field trip will allow users to tour the area and discuss management options.

In March 2009, the BLM Central California Resource Advisory Council met in Lone Pine and expressed its support for the BLM to build on the grass roots effort of local leaders to build a community-based stewardship strategy to maintain the character of the Chalfant Valley.

For more information, please contact Kyle Goin, CPLS project coordinator at (760) 873-6170 or Rich Williams, BLM recreation planner at (760) 872- 5033.
