BLM, Bike Club Hosting 'Take a Kid Mountain Biking' Event

Redding area children and their families can enjoy a day of mountain bike riding in a special "Take a Kid Mountain Biking" celebration, Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Swasey Recreation Area in west Redding.   The free event begins at 9 a.m. and features rides for all ability levels, including children just advancing past the training wheel stage.   Groups will depart at regular intervals until 9:45.  The event includes a free barbecue and a GPS geocache treasure hunt (the Bureau of Land Management will loan out a limited number of GPS units).  

Riders must provide their own bikes and helmets, which are required.  Technicians from The Bike Shop, of  Redding, will be on hand to help with mechanical problems.
 
Rides will be on trails in the BLM’s Swasey Recreation Area.  To get there from Redding, take Highway 299 west and turn left on Swasey Drive.  Continue two miles to the recreation area on the right.
 
The BLM’s Redding Field Office and the Redding Mountain Bike Club are hosting the event, which is an observance developed by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA).
