BLM Plans Prescribed Fire Project at Weaverville Community Forest

A prescribed fire to reduce accumulated brush and downed tree limbs in the Weaverville Community Forest in Trinity County will be conducted by crews from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) during the week of Nov. 2, weather permitting.
 
The 70-acre burn is planned for an area south of the community of Weaverville near the Timber Ridge subdivision, east of Democrat Ridge Road and west of West Weaver Road.
 
Crews will use the fire to clear out slash from a timber thinning project conducted in the summer of 2007.  Removing the brush and limbs will reduce wildfire danger and improve the health of the forest.
 
Burning will occur only on days when weather and fuel moisture conditions allow for safe and successful burning.
 
The 900-acre community forest is managed under a stewardship partnership involving the BLM and the Trinity County Resource Conservation District.  The forest is managed to preserve open space, provide recreation opportunities close to town, and for a sustainable supply of forest products including timber and firewood.
