Dedication Planned at BLM Fire Station in Taft
The Bureau of Land Management's Midway fire crew will begin operating this year from the crew's new quarters in Taft.
The public is invited to help dedicate the fire station, located at 801 Center St., at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 15.
"The Taft location will give us better coverage for areas on the west side including the Carrizo Plain National Monument," said Tim Smith, manager for BLM's Bakersfield Field Office.
In addition to the fire crew, a BLM law enforcement ranger will be based at the fire station. It will also be used as a source of information for people visiting the Carrizo, he added.
"We would like to thank the City of Taft, a Carrizo gateway community, for making its former fire station available for the BLM crew. We look forward to building an even stronger partnership," he said.
"The city of Taft is looking forward to a continuing relationship with BLM. We would like to thank BLM for utilizing the fire house and welcome them to the community," said Bob Gorson, city manager.
Tours of the station will follow the dedication ceremony.
