Inyo and Mono County Community Wildfire Protection Plans

The Inyo and Mono County Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP) have been completed and will be available to the public beginning Friday.

They can be obtained at the joint Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management Office in Bishop, 351 Pacu Lane, or at the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, 3150 Main St., during normal business hours. Both plans are extremely large and available on compact discs. The Inyo County plan also is available at

“We all have a stake in helping Sierra communities reduce and manage wildfire risk,” said Jeff Iler, interagency fire management officer.  “Our goal is to help local communities develop proactive fire planning that enhances the natural values of their surrounding lands while providing for community fire safety.”

The CWPPs help the communities apply for more funding to create and maintain fuel breaks, emergency evacuation routes, and other fuel load reduction tactics.  These plans serve as a working document and will be updated annually.

For further information contact Debra Hein, Interagency Fire Mitigation, at (760) 872-5057 or Bob Rooks, Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, at (760) 934-2300.
