BLM Announces Ridgecrest Solar Public Workshops, Scoping Meetings, and Site Visit

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the California Energy Commission (CEC) announce public workshops and scoping meetings for Jan. 5 and 6, 2010, on Solar Millennium’s proposed Ridgecrest Solar Power Project in northeastern Kern County, Calif. near the city of Ridgecrest.

The workshops and scoping meetings offer the agencies and the public a forum to obtain detailed information about the proposed project from its proponent, as well as an opportunity for the agencies and public to comment on issues regarding the proposed project.

The proposed project would require a right-of-way on public lands to construct a 250-megawatt (MW) dry-cooling, parabolic trough, solar thermal power plant.  The project site is located on both sides of Brown Road, southwest of Highway 395, approximately five miles southwest of the city of Ridgecrest.  If approved by the BLM and CEC, construction is proposed to begin Nov. 1, 2010.

All interested agencies and members of the public are invited to participate.  The workshops are discussions on technical aspects of the project between the proponent and the CEC.  The informational hearings/scoping meetings will include brief presentations describing the project and the review process, followed by a time for public comment.  The site visit provides an opportunity to see the actual area for the proposed project.
