BLM Opens Firewood Cutting Areas in Northeast California

Firewood cutting areas open Friday, May 1, on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in northeast California.
The BLM Alturas Field Office said permits are required for juniper firewood cutting in all areas, including free use areas near Madeline and south of Fall River Mills.
Permits, maps and a list of wood cutting regulations are available from the Alturas Field Office, 708 W. 12th St., Alturas; and from the Lassen National Forest’s Hat Creek Ranger District Office on Highway 299 in Fall River Mills.
In fee areas, permits cost $5 per cord with a two cord minimum and 10 cord maximum per family.
Woodcuttings must adhere to all stipulations, including restrictions on cutting old-growth juniper trees, and fire safety regulations.
For more information, contact the Alturas Field Office, (530) 233-4666.
