Fort Sage OHV Area Will Be Closed During Weekend Races

The Fort Sage Off Highway Vehicle Area near Doyle will be closed to public riding and driving Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, during the Cinco de Mayo 100 motorcycle race.
“We expect approximately 300 riders to compete in various races over the weekend,” said Marisa Williams, an outdoor recreation planner for the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Eagle Lake Field Office.  “For safety, we need to keep non-competitors off the trails during these high speed events.”
The event is organized by the Lassen Motorcycle Club and the Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada under a special recreation use permit issued by the BLM.
Spectators are welcome at the Widowmaker Trailhead, which contains the pit area, start/finish line and camping areas.  To reach the trailhead, take the Laver Crossing Road (just north of Doyle) east from Highway 395.  Turn right on Hackstaff Road, then left onto Fort Sage Road.  Follow Fort Sage Road around Turtle Mountain, about seven miles, to the trailhead.
Visitors should watch for course marshals, who will control traffic in areas where the race course crosses Fort Sage Road and in the pit and camping areas.
Visitors should use caution on the dusty road during the busy race weekend.
