BLM Offers Firewood Permits at Lacks Creek, King Range
The Bureau of Land Management is offering firewood permits at specially-designated wood cutting areas at Lacks Creek, northeast of Arcata, and at the King Range National Conservation Area, west of Redway.
Permits can be purchased at the Arcata Field Office, 1695 Heindon Rd., Arcata, and at the King Range Project Office, 768 Shelter Cove Rd. in Whitethorn. The permits allow wood cutters to remove hardwoods that are already down. Cutting live trees or standing dead trees will not be permitted.
The permits cost $10 per cord, with a two-cord minimum and a 10-cord maximum. The BLM will provide maps of the areas where wood cutting is allowed, and provide information on cutting regulations.
Wood cutters’ chainsaws must be equipped with spark arresters in good operating condition. BLM also recommends that wood cutters carry a fully charged fire extinguisher.
For more information, contact the BLM Arcata Field Office at (707) 825-2300 or the King Range Office, (707) 986-5400.
