BLM Offering Reward in Vandalism, Theft Near Ferndale

The U. S. Bureau of Land Management is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the theft of split rail fencing material from the Fleener Creek Overlook area west of Ferndale.
BLM officials said the 100 seven-foot redwood rails were stolen sometime between Saturday evening, Jan 12, and Tuesday morning, Jan. 15.  The Fleener Creek Overlook is on public land near the closed Centerville Naval Station.
Kathy Stangl, assistant field manager for the BLM’s Arcata Field Office, said replacing the material and rebuilding the fence will cost $4,000.
Anyone with information can contact the BLM Arcata Field Office at (707) 825-2300 or the Ferndale Police Department, (707) 786-4025.
