BLM Offering Firewood Permits at Arcata Field Office

The Bureau of Land Management has begun selling permits for firewood cutting on public lands in the Lacks Creek area northeast of Arcata.
Permits, which can be purchased at the Arcata Field Office, 1695 Heindon Rd., allow wood cutters to remove tanoak that is already down. Cutting live or standing dead trees will not be permitted.
The permits cost $10 per cord with a two-cord minimum and a 10 cord maximum. The BLM will provide maps of areas where wood cutting is allowed, and provide information on cutting regulations.
Wood cutters’ chainsaws must be equipped with spark arresters in good operating condition. They must carry a fully charged fire extinguisher.
For more information, call the BLM Arcata Field Office at (707) 825-2300.
