BLM Northeast California Resource Advisory Council Meets May 31-June 1 in Burney

Land use planning topics will highlight the agenda, when the Bureau of Land Management’s Northeast California Resource Advisory Council (RAC) convenes for a field tour and meeting Thursday and Friday, May 31 and June 1, at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Burney.
 
On Thursday, council members will meet at 10 a.m. and depart for a tour of a mining operation.  Members of the public are welcome.  They must provide their own transportation and lunch.
 
Friday’s business meeting, also open to the public, begins at 8 a.m.  Members will discuss management of wood cutting areas, the status of new resource management plans for BLM-managed public lands and the status of an environmental impact statement addressing restoration of sagebrush steppe ecosystems.  A discussion of management options for the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area in northwest Nevada is also on the agenda.
 
Public comments will be taken at 11 a.m. Anyone can address the council.  A time limit could be established to accommodate all speakers.
 
The Northeast California RAC, one of 24 such councils in the Western states, works with BLM managers in Alturas, Cedarville and Susanville, advising on a wide range of natural resource management and conservation topics.

Members represent a diverse cross section of public land interests including livestock grazing, recreation, environmental groups, timber management, wild horse and burro management, historical and archaeological interests, local government, the academic sector and the public at large.
