Stewardship Steering Committee to Host Range Monitoring Training
Members of the Modoc-Washoe Experimental Stewardship Program will study rangeland monitoring techniques in a training program Friday, June 29, on public range areas near Cedarville.
The daylong session is open to livestock grazing permit holders and anyone interested in learning about rangeland monitoring methods. Participants will meet at 8 a.m. at the BLM Surprise Field Office, 602 Cressler St. in Cedarville. Participants must provide their own high clearance vehicle, lunch and water.
The session will be led by specialists from the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service, and Modoc County Farm Advisor Don Lancaster. The group will visit several sites on BLM-managed public lands near Sand Creek, where various monitoring methods will be demonstrated.

The 17-member stewardship steering committee provides natural resource management advice to the BLM Surprise Field office and the Forest Service Warner Mountain Ranger District. One of three such committees established by Congress, the group works on a full consensus basis to promote innovative approaches to range management and to provide incentives for excellence.
Members represent a broad range of interests including livestock grazing permit holders, state wildlife agencies, the BLM, Forest Service, resource conservation districts, timber interests, environmental groups, sporting groups and local government.
