Tidepool Walks Scheduled Near Mal Coombs Park
Outdoor enthusiasts can learn more about the fascinating life in tide pools in special interpretive tide pool walks in Shelter Cove. There is no charge
The first outing is Wednesday, July 18. Participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Mal Coombs Park parking lot. Rachel Sowards, an interpretive specialist with the Bureau of Land Management’s King Range National Conservation Area, will lead the two-hour walk.
A second outing is set for Thursday, Aug. 2. Participants will meet at 8:15 a.m, also at the Mal Coombs parking lot.
“Tide pools support life that exists no where else,” Sowards explained. “The plants and animals can survive crashing waves and drying sun in an environment that changes daily with the tides.”
Walk participants should wear sneakers or other shoes that can get wet and dress for coastal conditions.
