BLM Announces Increased Camping Space at Imperial Dunes

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) El Centro Field Office is pleased to announce the completion of additional camping pads in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA).

Approximately five acres of new camping pads along Gecko Road were completed over the summer to bring the total camping pad space along the road to about 21 acres, which is a 19% increase. Specific sites were determined after studying aerial photos along with visitor camping preferences to determine the most effective locations.

In the coming weeks BLM officials will be performing camping pad surface maintenance work in the Cement Flats and Wash Road areas as well as along Gecko Road.. For further information contact Neil Hamada, ISDRA Dunes Manager, at (760) 337-4451.

Located in eastern Imperial County, the ISDRA is considered a world-class OHV area and it represents one of the most popular OHV areas in the western United States. It is the most heavily and intensively used OHV recreation area in the California Desert District with over 1.2 million visitors per year.
