News Release For Release: August 9, 2006 BLM Northwest Resource Advisory Council to Meet in Shelter Cove Varied natural resource topics, including management of the King Range National Conservation Area (NCA), are on the agenda for a field tour and meeting of the Bureau of Land Management's Northwest California Resource Advisory Council, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 17 and 18, in Shelter Cove. On Aug. 17, council members will convene at 8:30 a.m. at the Shelter Cove Deli, and depart for a field trip to sites in the King Range NCA. The tour will stop at sites including Mal Coombs Park, Black Sands Beach, Tolkan Campground, the Horse Mountain Creek Trailhead and King Range Road. The council will discuss King Range management topics, and see progress on construction of a new mountain bike trail. Members of the public are welcome. They must provide their own transportation and lunch. On Aug. 18, the council meets at 8 a.m. in the conference room of the BLM King Range office in Whitethorn. Members will discuss a resolution on recreation user fees for BLM facilities, hear an update on development of the Ukiah resource management plan, and receive an update on a proposal to create a national recreation area in the Sacramento River Bend area north of Red Bluff. Managers of the BLM Arcata, Redding and Ukiah field offices will present status reports. The council will hear public comments at 11 a.m. Anyone interested can address the council on topics related to public lands and natural resource management. The chairman could establish a time limit to accommodate all speakers. The 12-member advisory council works closely with BLM managers in Ukiah, Arcata and Redding, providing advice on land management and resource conservation issues. Members represent a wide range of interests including recreation, environmental groups, the timber industry, energy and mineral development, off-highway vehicle users, local government and the public at large. It is one of 24 BLM resource advisory councils in the Western United States.
