High school students learn about BLM careers

Students at the Union Mine High School in El Dorado learned about the career options available in the Bureau of Land Management, during the school’s career day Wednesday. Julie Wynia and Sophia Weinmann, interns, and Jeff Babcock, civil engineering tech, in BLM’s Mother Lode Field Office presented information on careers from engineering to botany.

Representatives from both the public and private sectors, from federal agencies to a private welders, staffed booths to provide career information to high school students.

The Mother Lode Field Office hosted nine interns this year in programs from the Pine Hill Preserve to the Cosumnes River Preserve. In addition, the office hosted several AmeriCorps crews working on projects in recreation and fire.
