BLM-California and other Interior agencies at the California State Fair

BLM-California continues to work with other agencies at the California State Fair, July 14-31, 2011 -- to help teach wildfire awareness and prevention, and to celebrate America's Great Outdoors. Camp Smokey continues its fire education program as it has in previous years, and at Discovery Island the Bureau of Land Management joins the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation and National Park Service in displays and children's activities promoting awareness of the adventures awaiting on America's public lands.

At CAmp Smokey, visitors learn about firefighting gear, and what to do in the event of fire.

A young visitor is at the head of the class for a fire prevention lesson taught by forest animal puppets.

At the entrance to Discovery Island, BLM Central California public affairs officer Dave Christy and fair visitors react to a comment from a young visitor examining tule elk horns and a condor display.
