Santa Rosa Mountain Road cleanup - National Public Lands Day

In honor of National Public Lands Day, the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument held a clean-up and site preparation project in the Santa Rosa Mountains. (text continues below)

Santa Rosa Mountain Road is one of few access roads into the National Monument, which allows the public to explore the Santa Rosa Mountains through multiple uses. Along the road there are various yellow post sites (designated areas for dispersed camping) and a spring where illegal and outdated fire rings were found.  Bureau of Land Management staff, along with U.S. Forest Service staff, accompanied a group of volunteers to remove and dismantle these fire rings.  It was a day of dust, ash and rock throwing, but it was a lot of fun!

The group also picked up trash, educated visitors and had a bumpy ride up the rocky road. At the end of the day, the sites were finished and ready for the new fire rings that will be placed in a future project.

The organizers send a big "Thank You" to all the volunteers who helped out.
