Wild horses and burros find homes at Lakeside adoptionTen horses and three wild burros were adopted last weekend during the BLM Lakeside Wild Horse and Burro adoption held at the Pillsbury Ranch near San Diego. (text continues below)
The 50-acre ranch is home to Joan Embery, world-renowned champion of environmental, conservation and preservation issues around the world, most notably as spokeswoman for the Zoological Society of San Diego. You have probably seen her along with her amazing exotic wildlife ambassadors on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, educating the public on conservation and wildlife issues. While Joan is most well known for her work with exotic animals, she is also an accomplished horsewoman, having won trophies in almost every discipline from dressage to cutting and driving to jumping. She also manages a community equestrian facility. Her support of the BLM Adopt A Wild Horse or Burro program is well known and was further validated as she personally adopted “Eeyore,” a wild burro from the BLM Ridgecrest Regional Wild Horse & Burro Corrals during the weekend adoption. - Stephen Razo, BLM California Desert District, 7/21/10
