 BLM Firefighter Savage Wins ‘Firefighter of the Year’ Honor

Albert Savage, left, receives the Firefighter of the Year Award from Jim Dandois of the Veterans of Foreign Wars William Davidson Post, of Susanville. Savage, the fuels specialist for the Bureau of Land Management Alturas Field Office, was recognized for his professionalism, integrity, job performance and attention to safety. He distinguished himself in the 2009 fire season as incident commander on the 1,500-acre Mendiboure Fire. He served as the BLM agency representative when CALFIRE fought large fires on BLM-managed public lands in Modoc, Lassen and eastern Shasta counties. He has been a BLM firefighter in Alturas for 22 years.
