 BLM Needles float wins prize

During the Needles Olde Fashioned Christmas Parade on Dec. 5, BLM-California's Needles Field Office won the "decorated vehicle" category. (text continues below)

Smokey Bear, Mojave Max the desert tortoise and Lightfoot the Tread Lightly! squirrel mascot take time out for a group portrait during the Needles Olde Fashioned Parade.

The BLM entry included several vehicles:  Smokey Bear rode on a decorated fire engine from the interagency Hole-in-the-Wall fire center. A law enforcement vehicle towed a trailer with a scene of a family camping, and  Lightfoot the Tread Lightly! squirrel mascot riding a quad off-highway vehicle. Mojave Max walked the route.

An estimated 825 people attended the event.

The Needles Desert Star has the story on this community parade, with a photo of the mayor announcing Little Mr. and Miss Santa. (Note: This news story may be online for only a limited time.)
