BLM float wins prize in community paradeBLM’s Bakersfield Field Office took first place for the non-profit division in the Dec. 3 Bakersfield Christmas Parade. The parade theme was "Once upon a Christmas" and the BLM float was "Once Upon a Fireman's Christmas". The float featured a fire truck, a fireman reading to children, Smokey Bear and Sparky the fire dog. (text continues below)
"It was an office project," said Tim Smith, BLM Bakersfield Field Office manager. "Whether it was staffs from the Carrizo, Resources, Administration, Minerals and Fire, everyone was working together as a team." Fire crew members from the Midway station came in from Taft and worked on the project. The office had entered floats previously, but not since 2006.
The Bakersfield Californian reported that 95 units took part in the parade this year, including 33 floats. For their report and more photos, see the Bakersfield Californian.
