BLM Director Bob Abbey visits Piedras Blancas Light Station

BLM Director Bob Abbey toured Piedras Blancas Light Station on California’s central coast as part of his visit to California last week.  Abbey met with Piedras association members and volunteers at a Wednesday evening event and was given a tour by volunteers and staff the next day.

Volunteers discussed the history of the light station, plans for the future, and maritime natural resources during the tour. The light station will celebrate its completion 135 years ago early next year and has been managed by BLM since 2001.

Abbey expressed his appreciation to BLM staff and volunteers for their work preserving the historical and natural resources at Piedras.  He noted the importance of partnerships such as the one at Piedras and expressed his thanks to volunteers for their efforts.
