BLMer presented award for service to youth through camping opportunitiesNoël Stephens, BLM Public Contact Representative for the California Desert District, was recently presented a Certificate of Appreciation by the American Camp Association for her stellar service to youth through camping. Noel continues to plan and coordinate highly successful outdoor camping opportunities on public lands to under privileged youth in southern California through the Wonderful Outdoor World (WOW) and Take it Outside programs. As the BLM representative for the WOW Los Angeles Region, Noël has provided inner-city youth with numerous outdoor camping classes that have taught kids about the Desert Tortoise, desert endangered species, mapping, and sand dune formation. Noël received her certificate during the American Camping Association, Southern California/Hawaii annual meeting held in Orange County in January. S. Razo, 2/09
