California Wild Horse and Burro Show and Adoption
The 7th Annual California Wild Horse and Burro Show (CWHBS) held on September 29th and 30th in Bishop, was a huge success. More than 60 entrants took part in the two-day event. The participants showcased their well-trained animals in events including halter, trail, western equitation, western pleasure, western reining, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation, hunter hack, burro jumping, barrel races, and pole bending. The CWHBS Association Board developed this show to promote the wild horse and burro adoption programs, to show the general public that these horses and burros are indeed worth our protection and that they do turn out to be a wonderful animal as well as to enjoy the camaraderie of other wild horse and burro enthusiasts. Association members are President Phil West, Vice President Wes Finley, Association Secretary Karen West and Treasurer Joe Billman.
Awards were presented to the Champion All Around and Reserve All Around in each division. Ken Partridge of 3V Leather in Bishop presented the Champion Green Horse All Around winner with a custom made saddle. Ken contributes saddles for the green horse division in memory of his horse Moonie, which had competed previously in the green horse division.
The Wild Horse and Burro Adoption held in conjunction with the show placed eight out of twelve animals into new homes. High bid for this event was $580 for a two year old gelding which had been gentled by volunteer Kathy Montes for the adoption. Kathy also showed the horse in halter winning a first place and in trail winning a third place.
The 8th Annual California Wild Horse and Burro Show will be held on September 27th and 28th, 2008 in Bishop. You can find more information on the show website.
