Employee Profile - Focus on Youth
California State Office
Samantha Clapp read an announcement about the Student Educational Employement Program (SEEP) one day between classes at Sacramento State University. More specifically, the posting was asking for someone with real estate knowledge. Since she had just passed her real estate certification test with the Department of Real Estate, she applied for the postion.
She was hired as a STEP (Student Temporary Employment Program), a subpart of SEEP, which provides maximum flexibility to both students and managers because the nature of the work does not have to be related to the student's academic or career goals.
Samantha will assist the staff of the external affairs office to keep information about renewable energy rights-of-way applications up to date on the Internet. While she is learning the intricacies of the content management system, she is providing invaluable help by keeping the calendar of events current, scanning newspapers and searching Internet sources for BLM related articles. She is also organizing legislative files.
Samantha is a senior and will receive her bachelor of science degree in accounting in May 2010. She is also doing an internship at a tax service to gain experience. She hopes to continue her education and become a certified public accountant.
She grew up in Los Gatos and started her college education at the University of California - San Diego in LaJolla. She has also attended Sierra Community College before transferring to Sac State.
