Jeff Tunnell

Fire Mitigation and Education Specialist
Ukiah Field Office

How can the agency help you do your job best?  That's Jeff Tunnell's approach to being a fire mitigation specialist.  "I still believe we need to be out on the ground meeting the people and giving them a positive experience to take home," he says.

That's what Jeff strives for in his day-to-day duties in fire prevention, community outreach and education and coordination with fire safe councils.

Raised in Anaheim, in southern California, Jeff is now a devout northern Californian.  He earned a degree in forestry from Humboldt State Univeristy and then set out on a career path of resource and fire managment, becoming a strong advocate for fire prevention.  He worked with the US Forest Service for more than 23 years on the Medicine Bow, Klamath, Six Rivers and Mendocino national forests.   He has worked in fire suppression, timber management and sale preparation, timber stand improvement and fire prevention.  He has been with BLM for one year.

When not out interacting with the public about fire prevention and helping them mitigate the risk associated with fire, Jeff enjoys travel, golf, bass fishing, hunting, photography and music. He will be getting married this fall.

Jeff lives in Lake County, but still has family in Anaheim.
